Biography

Joel Alpízar-Castillo received the bachelor's and graduate's joint degree in mechatronics engineering from the Costa Rica Institute of Technology in 2018, and a master in applied sciences in senior international management from the Complutense University of Madrid and a master of business administration with emphasis in project management from the Cerem International Business School joint degree in 2021. He pursued an internship in control and modelling with the Ocean Grazer at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, in 2018. From 2018 to 2020 he worked as Project Engineer in solar systems and microgrids at Purasol Vida Natural, Costa Rica. From 2018 to 2021 was a Lecturer in control systems and instrumentation at the Fidélitas University. From 2018 to 2021 chaired the national technical committee on PV systems, and from 2020 to 2021 also the national technical committee in Smart Cities, of the Technical Standards Institute of Costa Rica (INTECO). Since 2021 he is a PhD candidate in energy storage systems at the Delft University of Technology, with research interests in multi-carrier energy storage and ancillary services.
