Profile

Irma is a Lecturer in Academic English at the Centre for Languages and Academic Skills where she teaches a variety of spoken and written English courses to Bsc, Msc and Phd students. She holds a Master's degree from Leiden University and worked as a technical translator, subtitler and journalist before choosing to pursue a career in education. Irma has worked at various higher education institutions in the Netherlands, Germany and Scotland. Although interested in all aspects of the English language, she is particularly passionate about grammar and writing. It is her firm belief that any text, no matter how difficult the content, should be understood by an informed audience on first reading. She is happy to coach PhD students who want to make their writing more coherent, cohesive and accessible.
