Team Alfeld
The Alfeld Team works on X-rays in Art and Archaeology. This involves the development and application of methods to study the material character of our cultural heritage. This gives insight in the technology of ancient days and reflects the mindset and training of artists and the value attributed to certain materials.
The methods we develop include instruments for the analysis of objects on site as well as dedicated data evaluation approaches that take the complex structure and history of objects into account. Exploiting the complimentary information of spectroscopic techniques in fused data sets as well as accelerating the acquisition of data by adaptive imaging are active research lines. The objects investigated range from polychrome stone objects from Ancient Egypt over classical paintings to the present day.
