Short-stay accommodation
Through collaboration with housing corporation DUWO, TU Delft can offer its international PhD & guests help in finding initial accommodation (for a maximum up to 6 months) when coming to the Netherlands. This service is available for those coming directly from abroad. Please note that there is a high demand of rooms in Delft and The Netherlands, we cannot guarantee housing.
Short-stay accommodation for the following target groups is available:
PhD candidates - 1 months to a maximum of 6 months
Other (guests/employees) - 2 weeks to a maximum of 6 months
Meanwhile, we advise you to start looking for accommodation yourself, as TU Delft cannot accommodate all housing applications.
Those intending to stay in the Netherlands for more than six months will need to find accommodation by themselves while in short-stay. We advise all staff and guests to start looking as soon as possible if they plan to stay more than six months. When looking for accommodation yourself be aware of rental frauds and read our website carefully: Rental Frauds (tudelft.nl).
Please note: TU Delft charges a non-refundable housing fee of € 285 (€ 261,39 (including VAT) for this service plus a €23,61 platform registration fee in 2023). Please note that bank charges are for your own account.

The application process consists of several steps.
- Contact the secretary of the department you will be working for, to have a housing application form submitted at TU Delft Housing Services on your behalf.
- In addition you must pay the non-refundable housing fee to TU Delft Housing Services to have your application considered.
- After receipt of both housing application and housing fee, your application is ‘in-line’. TU Delft Housing Services will upload your details in the reservation system of ROOM university housing (based on the date on which both application and fee have been received and in order of rental starting date), but only if sufficient rooms will be available.
- Please note: your data will be uploaded no earlier than 7 weeks prior to starting date of the rental period.
- TU Delft Housing Services will only upload your details in the DUWO reservation system (ROOM) if there are sufficient accommodations available. We will only refund the housing fee if we have not uploaded your details in the DUWO reservation system.
- After upload in ROOM University Housing you will receive an automated e-mail from ROOM.nl containing a link to activate your account. Once you have activated your account you will be able to see the available accommodations and make a choice/reservation.
- Only choose a room if you are absolutely sure that you are able to travel to The Netherlands close to the requested date. After reservation, it is not possible to change the starting date of the rental contract.
- After you have reserved an accommodation, you will find the first invoice in your DUWO account. This first invoice will consist of several items, see this page.
Please note that for a couple room DUWO will always charge two times the linen package and basic kitchen and welcome package. - To finalize your rental contract, you will need to:
- Upload a copy of your passport or ID
- Upload a copy proof of PhD* (only applicable to PhDs) or an Employer’s statement ** (applicable to all others, not applicable to PhD)
- Pay the first invoice
- Sign the rental contract online
* Please request this copy of proof at the HR-Services department by sending them an email via hrservices@tudelft.nl.
** Employees who have their NetID can apply for this DUWO statement via www.tudelft.nl: choose Intranet and search for Employers declaration. If you do not have a NetID the secretary of the department you’ll be working for can request such a statement at the HR-Services department for you. -
We request you to pay the Housing & Platform Registration Fee ad € 285,00, by using this link in a browser: Housing - (TUDelft.nl)
By log off the link please check out by: “I am a new customer and want to check out as a guest”.
You can pay by Credit card, PayPal or IDeal. Please do not share this link with others.
If you have any problems with the payment via this WebMall please contact Team Housing via contactcentre-esa@tudelft.nl.
Important: note that the name of the account holder is the same name as you (the housing applicant). If someone else is paying for you, please provide a proof of this payment with this name to Team Housing by sending an email to contactcentre-esa@tudelft.nl. Otherwise we will not be able to match the payment of the housing and registration fee to your housing application.
After receipt of the housing and registration fee, Team Housing will upload your data to the ROOM University Housing platform, approximately 7 weeks prior to start date rental period but only if sufficient rooms are available. This means that you will receive an email from Team Housing – approximately 7 weeks prior to starting date - saying that we have uploaded your data or that we have not (yet) uploaded your data.
In case Team Housing is not able to upload your data, the housing and registration fee will be reimbursed. Team Housing will inform you if this situation occurs.
