Research description
My current research is focused on the CFD analysis of blood flow in human heart. We will combine CFD with experimental data and physical models to determine pressure-volume loops to improve diagnosis and follow effect of therapy on heart failure. The CFD will focus on solving the Navier-Stokes equations on a moving mesh, using experimental data as boundary conditions. The MRI experimental data will be used in defining the dynamical (spatial and temporal) variation of the ventricle geometry. The US measurements will be used to provide more detailed insights into regions in the proximity of valves, i.e. they will be used to specify the temporal evolutions of the three-dimensional in/out jets. In addition, the MRI measured velocity field will be used for validation of the CFD simulations. The project will be closely executed in cooperation with our colleagues from Leiden University Medical Center and Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam where MRI and US measurements will be performed.
