María C. Gélvez-Rueda

My name is María Camila and I am PhD candidate at the Grozema group.  I am from Colombia were I studied Chemical Engineering and came to The Netherlands to study a MSc in Sustainable Energy Technologies. On my PhD research I am studying the charge and excited state dynamics of hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites for optoelectronic applications (Solar cells, light-emitting diodes LEDs). 

Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites are largely studied materials due to their ease of fabrication and high solar cell power conversion efficiency (PCE=22%). However, these materials have low stability and it is not clear how its components interact and influence their optoelectronic properties. Our aim is to understand these interactions by making systematic changes in the crystal structure (nature of the atoms, dimensional confinement). Ultimately, this knowledge could allow us to design hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites with improved functionalities. 

In our group, we synthesize and characterize hybrid perovskites with techniques such as XRD, XPS, SEM. And subsequently, study the optoelectronic properties at varied temperatures using techniques such as absorption and photo-luminescent spectroscopy, time-resolved microwave conductivity (Laser and electron pulse induced) and transient absorption (white light TA).
