A sustainable TU Delft

TU Delft takes climate action very seriously. This is evident from its recently established Climate Action Programme and from its goal to be carbon neutral and circular by 2030. In his role as Sustainability Coordinator, Andy van den Dobbelsteen has been tasked with overseeing the sustainable transition of the TU Delft campus. He will not just tackle the energy system and buildings, but also travel, food, procurement, waste management, IT, green and water on the campus. Andy will present TU Delft’s vision, ambitions and action plan to achieve this transition which will make TU Delft the climate university of the world and its campus an innovative living lab for a sustainable, smart city.
Key speakers
Andy van den Dobbelsteen is a full professor of Climate Design & Sustainability and sustainability coordinator of TU Delft, with the task to make all activities on and from the campus carbon neutral and circular. Andy has led and conducted many research projects on sustainability in the built environment, for instance on energy transition of neighbourhoods, climate adaptation of cities, and circularity of airports. His approach in education and research founds on using the full potential from local circumstances and renewable sources. Andy is a faculty advisor to the successful TU Delft Solar Decathlon teams. For his work, Andy received a royal distinction and was given the Academic Society Award of KIVI. His Zero-Energy Design MOOC won the Edx Prize 2020 (best online course of 2020), and together with Oculus Films, he received a Gouden Reiger (Dutch Oscar for commissioned films) for the film Energy Slaves. Next to this professional work he performs several sports and writes thrillers.
