Summary
Next generation signalling systems such as ETCS L3 Moving Block and Virtual Coupling promise significant capacity benefits on railway lines. This research enhances a multi-state train-following model by a dynamic term, which ensures a safe separation between trains running under Virtual Coupling. Through microscopic simulation, several operational scenarios are simulated, revealing capacity benefits of the proposed model over ETCS L3 Moving block.
