Gerben Scheepmaker PhD defence on "Energy-Efficient Train Timetabling"

Gerben Scheepmaker successfully defended his PhD thesis on Energy-Efficient Train Timetabling.

Railways in Europe need to reduce the CO2 emissions and energy usage to contribute to sustainability. Two measures for railway undertakings, with low investment cost and both high reductions in CO2 emission and energy consumption, are energy-efficient train operation and incorporating this is in the timetable design. This PhD research developed and applied models for energy-efficient train trajectory optimization and multiple-objective timetable optimization.
