A.P. (Ann-Sofie) Zinck
Profile
I’m a PhD candidate since February 2021. I started my PhD at Utrecht University and have since December 2022 continued my PhD in the department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing. I obtained my BSc and MSc in physics at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen. For my MSc thesis I studied the ice thickness and surface velocity of the Müller Ice Cap to investigate possible ice core drilling sites.
Research
My research focuses on thinning and basal melting of the Antarctic ice shelves. I am developing a method which uses satellite imagery of high spatial resolution to obtain basal melt rates of high spatial resolution, from which we can detect small-scale melt features. This will help us to better understand the (in)stability of the ice shelves.
Projects
My PhD is a part of the HiRISE project, which aim is to assess the (in)stability of the Antarctic ice shelves and their potential contribution to sea level rise through high-resolution remote sensing techniques and modelling.
