Structural Design - Case Study (3 ECTS)
Course Contents
In this case study a structure in steel, steel-concrete, timber or fibre-reinforced polymers (FRP) has to be designed and checked on the requirements of the Eurocode.
The choice is based on your personal interest, but also depends on the courses you already finished as mentioned under ‘expected prior knowledge’.
Study Goals
Specific knowledge, skills and understanding to design a structure including calculations and drawings. Understanding the use of national and international codes (Eurocodes).
Expected prior knowledge
For the steel industrial hall including a crane girder the courses Steel Structures 2 and 3 are needed to be finished.
For the steel bridge the courses Steel Structures 2 and 3, as well as the courses Fatigue and Steel Bridges are needed to be finished.
For the steel/concrete office building you need to finish Steel Structures 2 and 3 as well as the course Fire Safety.
For the timber industrial hall or the timber bridge you need to finish the courses Timber Structures 1 and 2.
For the FRP bridge you need to finish the courses Fatigue, Steel Bridges and FRP Structures.
