Societal Challenges
AI-based energy systems affect everyone in society – and bring societal risks The CaSET ELSA AI Lab aims to understand these societal risks. We identify these risks in three areas: trustworthiness of AI, energy (In)justice, and (unfair) market designs.
Trustworthiness of AI
How can citizens’ trust in, adoption of, and meaningful control of AI in the energy system be realised?
CaSET considers three aspects:
- citizens’ perceptions: attitude to AI, use in energy system
- citizens’ involvement: decisions in & for energy system
- citizens’ control: interaction, explanation, data
Energy Justice
How can ethical and just principles inform AI-based energy system design decisions in practice?
Fair Market Designs
How can data-driven market systems for affordable and fair energy supply and demand be established?
