Title: Transdisciplinary Encounters - Typology

Semester: 2017 Spring

Teachers: Willemijn Wilms Floet, Hans Teerds

In spring 2017, the studio investigated the landscape of the welfare state in particular in the post-war neighbourhoods of Amsterdam and Copenhagen. The focus of the research and design project was the collective green courtyards and their architectural, urban, and landscape-architectural elements. These green spaces are understood as an accommodator of the “commons”, and are studied by means of a comparative plan analysis and by the analysis of historical precedents. The students crisscrossed social, performative and architectural perspectives: which are the architectural notions that affect the social structure, and, which social practices are embedded in architectural perception? The studio is organized in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen, section of Landscape Architecture.
