Semester: 2023

The building itself will generate sound using its shape and the natural elements of the site. The difference of the tidal range will alter the size of the resonance boxes and alter the sound of the flutes. When listening well, you would hear this material change. How lower the river water, how larger the the flute, how lower the sound.

The road on the ground floor level will move to the elevated road and be replaced by a by bicycle lane. This gives more space along the waterfront, a possible usage of this is market-stands in the arches of the brick wall. Around the building a strip of tea plants will be planted, this green strip can me extended along the whole waterfront and chance from tea plants into other plants. Inside the building is also an artificial Chinese landscape (as this is the biggest exporter of tea in Antwerp).

When it is summer and the wooden panels in the facade can move up this Chinese landscape suddenly meets the European landscape. The tea leaves that are harvested here will be produced to tea in 8 steps on the 8 different floors. The large stair leads you past these steps to make you appreciate what you later will consume. Halfway the stair comes out of the building to give you a little sneak peak of your journey upwards. Suddenly you can look over the elevated road and see a different part of Antwerp. This route is a walkway through all your senses (vision, touch, smell, sound and finally taste). When finally reached the top you can enjoy the view and sound together with some tea on the rooftop or in the bar with a panoramic view. The concrete structure of the silos sticks out 1 meter at the rooftop and with little openings creates more enclosed areas. The elevator can be taken to go down.
