Recently graduated TLO student Thaddaeus Weisshaar has won the prestigious Friedrich List prize award at the European Transport Congress 2024. The jury was impressed by his thesis ‘Unravelling night train travel behaviour: A stated preference survey into the influence of operational and personal factors’. It fitted perfectly in this year’s theme of the congress: sustainable European transport.

By following the recommendations of this thesis regarding ticketing and differences in user preferences, night train operators are able to increase the attractiveness of night trains, thus contributing to a more sustainable long-distance transportation sector in Europe.

Thaddaeus is now a PhD student at ESS/TLO. Read the thesis here.
