Workshop at BK during the Delta week
On 11 January 2024 the workshop 'Digital Engagement in Times of Climate Crisis' took place as part of the TU Delft Delta week.
Assistant professors Dr. Juliana Goncalves and Dr. Geertje Slingerland started off the workshop with a short presentation where they highlighted the need for engaging citizens in spatial transitions related to the climate crisis, given that large parts of the urban space is privately owned.
They introduced the two projects, “Citizens meet Climate” (CmC) and “Citizen Voices in Biodiversity” (BIO-CiVo) in which two digital platforms are designed and prototyped. The digital CmC prototype aims to increase awareness about the climate crisis and activate citizens to engage in local initiatives to mitigate risks. The BIO-CiVo paper prototype allows citizens to explore and evaluate a scenario to improve biodiversity in the neighbourhood of Oud-Mathenesse.
About 30 participants of the workshop could try out both prototypes. They were supported by the research assistants Maria, Jing, Johanna, Virginia, and Isabella, who designed both prototypes. The researchers received extremely valuable feedback to further iterate on the designs. The afternoon concluded with an open discussion on how we can better involve residents using digital platforms in times of climate crisis.
