New Head of Architecture Department
After a term of six years, Kees Kaan will step down as Head of the Architecture Department of TU Delft’s Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment from 1 February 2025. He will continue his work leading the Complex Projects Group. From that moment Georg Vrachliotis will take on the role of Head of the Architecture Department. In this capacity, Georg will also represent Architecture within the Management Team (MT) of the Faculty.
Dean Dick van Gameren: ‘I thank Kees Kaan for his outstanding commitment as Head of Architecture Department over the past years. Under his leadership, the Department has grown stronger and more resilient, ready for a new chapter. I have great confidence that Georg Vrachliotis, working collaboratively with all colleagues, will guide the Department toward an impactful future.’
Georg brings a wealth of experience, a bold vision and a collaborative and open spirit to this role. His academic career began at ETH Zurich, where his research pioneered connections between architectural history, design and digital culture. Before joining TU Delft, Georg served as Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where he also held the Chair for Architecture Theory.
Georg Vrachliotis: ‘I’m honoured to take on the role of Head of the Architecture Department at a time when we are facing major global challenges and embracing exciting new technologies. My aim is to support the next generation of architects, advance design research and education, and foster an open culture within our Department that unites people and strengthens our discipline. Let us work together with empathy and purpose to rethink architecture’s role in addressing the urgencies of our time.’
