Henri is moving!
Henri Baudet was known for his keen eye for quirky artifacts and timeless treasures. His objects are stored as part of the ‘Henri Baudet Institute’, operating out of the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering (TU Delft), for private viewing. But now, you can also discover the collection through the eyes of TU Delft ‘Spaces of Display’ minor students.
Henri Baudet
Prof. Dr. Henri Baudet (1919-1989) held the chair of “History of Human-Product Relations" at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering from 1965 through 1987. He applied concepts and theories from the social sciences to explain changes in the appearance of industrially manufactured consumer goods. During this time he also started a collection of consumer goods, which now contains 1200 objects and spans from the 1940's to present.
The exhibition
The students imagine the House of Delft as a temporary residence for Henri Baudet. As such, the exhibition promises to bring his collection back to life by creating a colourful representation of domestic life, showcasing the everyday objects that have captured Baudet's fascination over the years. The six windows offer a captivating journey through six distinct rooms, inspired by the extensive collection of Henri Baudet’s household objects.
As an additional highlight, the exhibition features the work of the TU Delft students following the minor ‘Spaces of Display’. These students have taken inspiration from Henri Baudet's collection to create intricate 1:33 scale models. They have designed an exhibition that showcases the Henri Baudet collection in the Innovation Gallery at the House of Delft, in any capacity that they want. Visitors find the possibilities are endless when experiencing the House of Henri!
The minor
The Spaces of Display minor, part of the chair ‘Interiors Building Cities’, is an interiors-based course in which a small space needs to be designed for carefully selected artifacts at a certain location in the city. Students design and build a fragment of the building on different scale levels, 1:10 or 1:5 and sometimes even 1:1. The TU Delft Science Centre gives a glimpse behind the scenes of TU, showing a world full of science and technology. It offers the opportunity to discover the fascinating world of research and innovation to visitors of all ages.
Students from the minor Spaces of Display have designed and built the exhibition.
