Purple Friday

Friday the 8th of December is Purple Friday, which invites us to pay attention to the LGBTI+ community. As dean of our faculty and chair of the TU Delft study climate steering board, I am delighted that Purple Friday is celebrated campus-wide to express the solidarity between us. 

I, and many with me, are concerned. We live in a time when polarisation threatens to come at us from all sides. It is vital to make room for openness and tolerance, especially when we do not share each other's views. Diversity and inclusion can only have meaning when they are based on respect, tolerance and understanding of each other. As the Bouwkunde community, let us express these values at all times, especially in this era when global conflicts lead to much grief, fear and uncertainty, also within our own community. Regardless of background, orientation and nationality, all our colleagues and students are welcome at our faculty.
