Opinion piece by Niek Mouter in the NRC about resistance to climate measures

In this opinion article, Niek Mouter and Mark Beumer discuss resistance to climate measures. By using the term NIMBY (Not In My Backyard), one does an injustice to the opponents. Research shows that self-interest is typically not the dominant motive for resistance: justice, solidarity, and an infringement of the living environment can be other motives. In order to prevent this resistance, the authors advocate for careful participation: only then can local residents participate in the distribution of benefits and burdens.
