Meet the professor: lectures at primary schools in Delft
On Wednesday 6 April, TU Delft treated the Delft primary schools to knowledge for the second time. 33 professors gave guest lectures to a total of more than primary school 800 pupils. TPM professors Caspar Chorus, Laurens de Vries and Bert van Wee participated in this initiative.
Waved goodbye by mayor Marja van Bijsterveldt, the professors went the from city hall to “their” schools in Delft and the surrounding area by tuk-tuk and bicycles. Pupils from groups 7 and 8 were taught by a real professor and that provided them with a nice insight into the world of science. Amongst many examples, the children learned through mini windmills how wind energy works, how their primary school could save energy, how robots can perform an operation, what nanoparticles actually are and they could participate in a, AI choice-experiment. A number of schools are still working on a follow-up assignment in the context of the 180th anniversary theme, the energy transition.
Meet the Professor Delft is organized by WIJStad and Wetenschapsknooppunt Delft. Recruitment for the third edition will start in June; our aim is to have all Delft primary schools and even more Delft professors participate. More information? Mail to: meettheprofessor@tudelft.nl.
