Ksenia Poplavskaya winner of the ESS PhD Best Paper Award 2020
On March 18th ESS Head of Department Caspar Chorus announced the winner of the annual ESS PhD Best Paper Award. Ksenia Poplavskaya’s article “Effect of market design on strategic bidding behaviour: Model-based analysis of European electricity balancing markets” was selected as the winner of 2020.
Ksenia is a PhD candidate in the Energy & Industry section. She combines a detailed Agent-based Model of an electricity balancing market with Artificial Intelligence to simulate strategic behaviour in this market. The model is already being used by the Swedish Transmission System Operator. An excellent example of the combination of scientific and societal relevance of her PhD research.
