Niels, who received his PhD in our section in 2016, will receive the J. Clarence Karcher Award for his excellent research on ‘Coupled poroelastic waves and electromagnetic fields in layered media’. The J. Clarence Karcher Award is given by SEG to young and promising researchers until 35 years of age. Niels clearly fulfills these criteria. He published 8 papers, 5 book chapters and edited a book on Seismoelectric Exploration. After an adventure as assistant professor at Hawai’i University, where he inspired a new generation of geophysicists, he is now employed by Staatstoezicht op de Mijnen (SodM).
