New staff member in Hydraulic Structures & Flood Risk section

We welcome dr. ir. Davide Wüthrich as a new assistant professor to the section of Hydraulic Structures & Flood Risk.

Davide is a civil engineer specialized in hydraulic engineering and environmental fluid mechanics, newly appointed Assistant Professor in the Hydraulic Structures and Flood Risk group of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering.

After obtaining a Bachelor in civil engineering at Politecnico di Torino (Italy), he continued his studies at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), where he obtained a Master in 2013 and a Ph.D. in 2018 on the impact of waves on structures. He actively participated in research projects in Switzerland, Canada and Japan, before moving to Australia for a PostDoc at the University of Queensland, where he currently holds an Honorary Lecturer position.

His research focused on the physical modelling of hydraulic structures and multiphase flows, both in steady and unsteady flow conditions. Afflicted by today’s climate change, the resilience of infrastructure is critical, and his research goal is to provide a better understating of the physical processes for disaster prevention and for the development of innovative and sustainable construction techniques.

At TU Delft Davide will be responsible for the course “Hydraulic Structures 2” (CIE5313) and he is planning to continue his research in the broad domain of hydraulic structures.
