First circular extensions successfully placed
The first circular extensions have been successfully placed in the demonstration home at the Kuilsenhofweg in Amsterdam.
The circular extension is developed as part of the ‘REHAB’ project together with TU Delft, AMS Institute, ERA Contour and Eigen Haard. The goal of this project is to develop and test circular components for housing renovation.
The circular extension consists of standardized modules and applies reclaimed and recycled materials. For example, the cladding in the extension is made from wood reclaimed during the renovation. The extension modules can be configured differently, so that the same system can be used to create different extension designs. This modular system also makes it possible to repair separate parts easily, and adjust the extension to meet changing housing needs in the future. If the extension is no longer needed, the modules can be disassembled and used elsewhere. Finally, at the end of life, the modules have been designed for disassembly so materials can be recycled.
In the coming months, the renovation plan will be developed further. Together, we will work towards the circular renovation of all of the 60 dwellings in the Kuilsenhofweg.
