Workshop Disinformation as Cybersecurity Threat: Value Considerations and Ethical Issues
On 25 June 2019, Bibi van den Berg, Tommy van Steen and Ilina Georgieva from the Institute of Security and Global Affairs’ Cyber Security Governance research group will present a workshop on disinformation in cybersecurity.
About the workshop
Disinformation is increasingly recognized as a threat to national security and democracy. Examples are the spread of fake news and trolling. However, in policy making it has not yet generally been recognized as a national security risk, or a cybersecurity risk. The workshop will discuss why it can be seen as such, what ways we might employ to deal with it, and what ethical issues the threat, as well as possible measures against it, may raise.
From Leiden University, Bibi van den Berg will present a session on ‘Disinformation as a cybersecurity threat’, Tommy van Steen on ‘Disinformation and fake news: what’s new?’ and Ilina Georgieva will present on ‘Unexpected moral actors: the role of intelligence agencies in disinformation’.
