Symposium Multi-modelling of energy systems
On 16 April 2019 the Energy and Industry Section organized a symposium “Multi-modelling of energy systems” led by prof.dr.ir. Zofia Lukszo.
As energy systems grow and challenges of energy transition are huge, more complex modelling efforts spanning multiple scales, disciplines and perspectives are essential for fact and science-based decision and policy making. The modelling world needs to make a transition as well. The models we are looking for should do justice to many perspectives and many shades of complexity. We can contribute to this need by deploying among others co-simulation, multi-modelling, and even further multi-site simulations where various models are developed by various research groups at different locations, sometimes in different parts of the world, and interconnected to achieve a common goal.
During the symposium we stressed similarities and differences between co-simulation and multi-modelling, presented examples of studies not only done by different research groups but also in a multi-site way by a federation of research group located in different European member states and world-wide, to finally discussed challenges of cost-effective sharing of hardware and software facilities.
The conclusions from the fruitful discussion during the symposium and from individual presentations will form a basis to write a joint paper on multi-modelling of energy systems.
