Modern trombe wall selected for best tech idea
The Double Face 2.0 research project has been selected as one of the best tech ideas of the Netherlands in 2019. The trombe wall with phase changing materials can ensure a much lower energy consumption of buildings. Science magazine KIJK organises the public contest. Make sure to vote here before 1 October 2019.
DoubleFace is a 3D-printed translucent system of blocks filled with PCMs. In the winter, the heat from the sun liquefies the material, allowing an increased penetration of light, while the element re-solidifies in the evening, slowly emitting heat. As the compartmentalised system is able to rotate about its axis, it has exactly the opposite effect in the summer. This would allow for much lower energy consumption of buildings, offering a sustainable alternative for air-conditioning and heating systems.
DoubleFace 2.0 was selected by the editorial board of KIJK. The longlist of twenty inspiring tech ideas created in the Netherlands was compiledin collaboration with independent experts, technical universities and institutions supporting start-ups.
