Education on sustainable housing renovation in Xi’an, China
Management in the Built Environment is exporting its Dutch approach all over the world. This summer, they organised a summer school on sustainable housing renovation in collaboration with Hong Kong Polytechnic University. They focussed on showing their approach to a more sustainable development of housing estates.
In the past 25 years, the focus in China was on massive production of new housing estates with often a limited quality. More attention is coming for sustainability and ways to improve the quality of existing building stock. The collaboration in this summer school raises awareness about the possibilities and offers a Dutch perspective on opportunities for sustainable housing renovation.
The eight-day programme offered a combination of lectures, site visits and a group project to students from several universities in China. Queena Qian, Erwin Mlecnik, and Henk Visscher (MBE) organised the summer school in collaboration with Edwin Chan (Hong Kong Polytechnic), Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology and COual Culture.
