Co Verdaas appointed dijkgraaf
As of 1 April 2019, Co Verdaas has been appointed as the new dijkgraaf of the Water Board Rivierenland. The position of dijkgraaf within a water board is the equivalent of the position of mayor within a municipality council.
As Professor of Urban Area Development, Verdaas keeps the broad social context in view. Within his new position, he creates links between urban area development, administrative involvement in water, and all the related water developments. Verdaas: “As someone who lives in the floodplains in a river area, I have an everyday awareness of the role that water boards play in the design and development of a future-proof habitat. As a society, we face major challenges in the area of sustainability and climate change, and related issues such as water safety and quality. In my opinion, this is one of the major social challenges of the moment.” Read the full decision of the Water Board Rivierenland here.
The appointment as dijkgraaf is for a period of six years. Next to his professorship and position as dijkgraaf, Co Verdaas remains a member of the Dutch Council for Living environment and Infrastructure until August 2020.
