Futurebuild 2019
Arjan van Timmeren and Alex Wandl (Urbanism, BK Bouwkunde TU Delft) discuss their ideas about circular cities with experts from all over the world at the Futurebuild 2019 event that will take place in London on 5-7 March 2019. The prototype of the REPAiR decision support system can be tested at the event.
The H2020 project REPAiR (REsource Management in Peri-urban Areas) is led by Arjan van Timmeren (principal investigator) and Alex Wandl (scientific project leader). REPAiR aims to provide local and regional authorities with an innovative transdisciplinary open source geodesign decision support environment (GDSE) that helps reduce waste flows in peri-urban areas.
The prototype of the decision support system, which has been developed in the REPAiR pilot cases Amsterdam Metropolitan Area and Naples can be tested at the event. The first phase was dedicated to the development of the activity-based-spatial material flow mapping tool, which allows to map waste and material flows generated by economic activities with an unprecedented spatial accuracy. This is crucial to develop eco-innovative solution that harvest synergetic potential and support the shift towards a more circular economy. In the following phase the sustainability assessment tool will be developed in order to assess different strategies proposed by the stakeholders of the REPAiR Peri-urban Living Labs.
