Sustainable fresh water and energy production for the island of Johnny Cay (Colombia)
In the natural reserve of Johnny Cay a sustainable production of water and energy. Water and electricity are produced with the energy of a windmill. Johnny Cay is a natural reserve and 350.000 tourists frequent the island yearly.
A sustainable solution on Johnny Cay can be used as education centre to show the possibilities of sustainable water and electricity production options focused on these tourist groups. Another goal is to develop sustainable solutions for other regions in Colombia and the Caribbean. So the installation on Johnny Cay will be developed into an educative centre for tourists as well for more professionals.
One of the fundamental pillars to progress the transformation of the human practice is environmental education. In this sense the new educative centre of excellence will focus on business and public in Colombia (and abroad) by means of different ways of education:
- On-line focused on business organizations
- On-line focused on cooperation with educational institutes (master and Bachelor of Science level)
- On-line as preparation for on-site training on the island of Johnny Cay
- Several times per year a half day course on the island of Johnny Cay
- Guided tours on the island of Johnny Cay aimed at residents and tourists
- A general self-education billboard system on the island of Johnny Cay, explaining the installations on the island. This last one is focused on the 350.000 yearly day visitors to the archipelago
