Nirmal Sitaldin

PhD Student

Nirmal Sitaldin is a PhD candidate at the SUM Lab, Department of Civil Engineering & Geosciences at TU Delft.

He holds a MSc. degree in Data Science & Society at Tilburg University, specializing in Health Data Science. His master thesis focused on exploring symptom correlational networks of thyroid disease during early pregnancy, and how associated symptoms could predict thyroid impairments using machine learning algorithms. Nirmal’s main research interests pertain to data science and AI applications to model, predict, and gain deeper (causal) insight in natural, medical, ecological, and engineering phenomena and challenges for a future-proof, robust society.

Research Nirmal's PhD research pertains to the exploration and application of data science and operations research techniques to model Dutch road network adaptations against the consequences of climate change on urban environments. The methodology mainly consists of (but is not limited to) agent-based simulation techniques, stochastic optimization, and data-drive pattern recognition methods.
