L. E. (Lucas) Suryana

Profile

Lucas is a PhD Researcher at TU Delft. He currently researches the implementation of meaningful human control concepts in automated driving systems (ADS), which ensures a more ethical design of ADS. During 2020-2022 he worked as an IT & Big Data lecturer at a fast-growing private university in Jakarta, Indonesia. Prior to his career in academia, he was a certified data scientist from world-known Geographical Information Systems (GIS) company. He also holds an Associate Data Scientist certificate from a reputable Indonesian certification institution. He earned his BSc and MSc in control engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia. He has an interest in the application of spatial data science and control theory for transportation sectors. In his free time, he shares his work on Medium (https://lucaselbert.medium.com/) & GitHub (https://github.com/lucassuryana).

Research

Lucas’s research is focused on the development of the methodological control theory of meaningful human control in automated driving systems (ADS). Meaningful human control is a philosophical concept of how to enable a more morally responsible design of intelligent systems. He tried to translate this concept into a design specification for the control system on ADS.
