Coastal Engineering
Coastal regions all over the globe experience environmental pressure both due to human interventions, exploitation and occupation and due to climate change impacts. Coastal engineering aims to contribute to resolving the various conflicting interests between the coastal environment and human use of the coastal environment.
The coastal engineering group focuses on education and research related to coastal systems, such as dune and barrier coasts, estuaries, lagoons and larger composites thereof such as deltas. The group’s recent focus is on the implementation of the Building with Nature concepts, viz. using natural processes to achieve more sustainable coastal systems. On these pages you can read more about the research and education in the fields of coastal engineering and lagoon and estuarine engineering.
