Think Deep: Idiosyncraticity in underground architecture, as an extension of our urban fabric
Think Deep represents an innovative exploration of the potential for underground urban development and sets out a vision for such space as an extension of the urban fabric.
By liberating ground-level spaces, Think Deep fosters a more open, accessible and liveable city. The project integrates existing structures with new underground extensions, creating a seamless connection between the above and below-ground realms.
Situated around London’s Farringdon underground stations, this mixed-use hub challenges conventional boundaries. The design blurs the lines between above- and underground spaces and proposes an idiosyncratic architecture to address the needs and opportunities of the underground. Additionally, it prioritizes inclusivity by being accessible to mobility-impaired citizens, ensuring the safety of vulnerable road users and providing opportunities for diverse economic activities, thus contributing to a thriving urban ecosystem.
Think Deep is more than a design, it offers a novel, yet feasible, perspective on the city of the future. It shows how underground spaces can enhance liveability and inject new vitality into an urban context.
