Survivors

Activity has gradually been eroding from the traditional city center of Bogotá for several decades already. Depopulation and further gentrification seem unavoidable. However, a few patterns of activity refuse to abandon the area, and appear as potential sources for the vigoration of this important area of the city.

Bottom up - Recording

A delicate survey of individual user groups’ patterns of activity offers insight into the relations that exist between those patterns of activity and specific elements of the built environment. Memory, exchange, political action, negotiation, and power, are registered as key elements to assess the current state of used and unused public and collective spaces, and their future possibilities.

Economic, Symbolic, Activist, Specialist Positions

A re-signification of some of these public and collective realms is proposed as an open scheme for participation by several of the studied user groups. An architectural competition, which recognises these groups’ (oftentimes contradictory) interests as a driving force for revitalising this urban situation, is launched; followed by the development of a possible design trajectory based on the competition brief.
