The new BK Lab for innovations offers a creative space to develop new innovations and to make cutting-edge research visible within the faculty. The new Lab, located at BG.West.200, offers a communal space where researchers can interact and push the boundaries of their research projects.

A new collaboration with the Dutch installation sector has resulted in the creation of the Chair of Building Services Innovations. The chair will be directed to the academic development of innovative building services and support of this part of the building industry, which has a pivotal role to play in the challenges of sustainability and quality of life.

Samen met producenten en afnemers ontwikkelden wetenschappers van BK Bouwkunde TU Delft en het Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions (AMS Institute) een prototype circulaire keuken. Dit is een keuken die niet slechts 10 of 20 jaar meegaat, maar bijna oneindig kan worden vernieuwd en aangepast op veranderende wensen.

Uta Pottgiesser is benoemd tot hoogleraar Heritage & Technology. Ze zal het onderzoeksprogramma over de technische aspecten van architectuurerfgoed voortzetten, onderzoek dat van cruciaal belang is voor een goede restauratie van historische gebouwen.

The knowledge programme Smart Urban Regions of the Future deals with societal challenges. Two research projects from BK Bouwkunde have been funded in the latest round of the SURF knowledge programme: research into future spatial patterns of grocery shopping and research into sustainable urban riverfronts.

Ruimtelijke kwaliteit is nog te vaak ondergeschoven kindje bij ingrepen om het water buiten te houden. Nergens voor nodig, zegt promovendus Anne Loes Nillesen. Zet eerst de technische mogelijkheden op een rij en ontwikkel, in overleg met alle relevante partijen, een geïntegreerde oplossing.

Tijdens de laatste week van de Venetië Biënnale organiseerde BK Bouwkunde een feestelijke afsluiting van de onderzoekstentoonstelling BK Booths. De makers, studenten en collega’s, alumni en professionals ontmoetten elkaar in Palazzo Mora om de BK Booths te ontdekken.

The Resilient Island Foundation was founded by five students of BK Bouwkunde. Their goal is to implement a circular economy of food and waste in the world’s most isolated communities. Their first project ‘Maldives Matter’ was selected as one of the five finalists at the TEDx Award in Amsterdam, out of 200 applications.

In de ogen van veel architectuurprofessionals ondergaat het architectonisch werkveld een proces van devaluatie. Daarom start BK Bouwkunde een sociologische studie om de lange termijn trends binnen het vakgebied in kaart te brengen in samenwerking met de Stichting ArchiScienza. Deze stichting stimuleert onderzoek op het gebied van architectuur en wetenschap in de breedste zin.

Samen met de Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (RCE) heeft BK Bouwkunde TU Delft een digitale lithotheek ontwikkeld. Hierin worden de uitgebreide natuursteencollecties van de RCE en de TU Delft ontsloten. Zo kunnen architecten, restauratoren en onderzoekers natuursteen eenvoudiger identificeren en toepassen.
