Delegation from Chan Zuckerberg Initiative visits TU Delft
On Monday 13 November, a delegation from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) visited TU Delft. The philanthropic organisation presented how they are supporting biomedical scientific research to a group of Delft researchers.
In a gathering at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, CZI’s Head of Science Stephen Quake explained the funding opportunities their organisation provides for biomedical research, and expressed interest in supporting European and Dutch research in particular. Physicist David Maresca shared his experience in having received the first CZI Dynamic Imaging grant. Sebastian Weingärtner, Stan Brouns and Sjoerd Stallinga from the Faculty of Applied Sciences gave a sample of the types of research scientists cover at the departments of Bionanoscience and Imaging Physics.
Martin Depken, head of the Bionanoscience department, pointed out the similarities between CZI and TU Delft: “CZI fosters collaboration between scientists and engineers, develops new technologies, and builds support for basic scientific research. As a technical university we of course develop technologies, but we also have a strong fundamental science section.”
