Prize for best poster awarded to Isabel Droste at the Face2Phase conference
The prize for the best poster at the Face2Phase conference has been awarded to Isabel Droste for the poster titled ‘Vectorial PSF model with field dependent aberrations using Nodal Aberration Theory’. The poster shows the work of Isabel Droste together with Sjoerd Stallinga and Bernd Rieger in the field of Single Molecule Localization Microscopy (SMLM).
In SMLM, blinking fluorescent molecules are used to reach nanoscale resolution images . The exact location of a single molecule is determined by fitting a model of the Point Spread Function (PSF) to its image. The microscopy images can be distorted due to aberrations in the optical system. In addition to this, the aberrations vary over the field of view.
Isabel Droste is working on an algorithm for detecting these field dependent aberrations directly from single molecule data, without the need of a calibration procedure. She tries to do this by combining the information from many fluorescent molecules across the field of view.
The conference, which addressed phase information imaging, was held on 7-9 of November 2022 in Delft. The poster prize consisted of the book ‘PT Symmetry’ by Prof. Carl Bender, who was one of the invited speakers.
