Fluidization of elongated particles—Effect of multi‐particle correlations for drag, lift, and torque in CFD‐DEM

Recently promoted Ivan Mema and Promoter Johan Padding show in this paper that in fluidization of non-round particles, hydrodynamic lift and torque have an important influence on particle distribution and orientation. This seems like a logical statement, but is ignored in almost all larger scale models for fluidization. They have developed correlations for the hydrodynamic forces and torques on suspensions with rod-like particles and show that they can achieve quantitative agreement with experiments.
