Europa Nostra Award won by Dora Chatzi Rodopoulou

Dora Chatzi Rodopoulou has won the Europa Nostra Award in the category Research with her research project: Control Shift: European Industrial Heritage Reuse in review. The Europa Nostra Awards is the EU prize for cultural heritage funded by the Creative Europe programme. The Control Shift research project explores the practice of industrial heritage reuse in Europe and its stakeholders. It investigates the development of the practice during the last half century in Europe, with special emphasis on the UK, The Netherlands, Spain and Greece. The project provides a much-needed alternative framework for the conservation of industrial heritage.

The jury, composed of heritage experts from across Europe, recognised “the quality and relevance of this research, as well as its potential for development in various European countries. It has made a major contribution to a better understanding of the issues involved in preserving Europe's industrial heritage”.

The project was conducted in the framework of her PhD programme in the Heritage & Architecture group, AE+T, TU Delft and the Urban Environment Laboratory, School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens.  Dora is supervised during her research journey by Prof. Marieke Kuipers, Assoc. Prof. Hielkje Zijlstra and Prof. Nikos Belavilas.
