Design & Built competition for ‘Europe Readr’ pavilion

This summer, all BK-students are invited to join the design & built competition for ‘Europe Readr’ pavilion. The challenge is to design and produce a small ‘pavilion’ that will, enable exchange, debate, and reflection on the future of living Europe, in new and innovative ways. The winning design will be built and travel to several locations in the Netherlands.

This competition is the result of a successful application at EUNIC of the Solvenia Embassy in The Netherlands and TU Delft Bouwkunde.

Europe Readr Pavilion

In July this year, Slovenia will take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. On this occasion, it initiates ‘Europe Readr’. Europe Readr is an online platform with free literature from all EU countries. It aims to foster reading culture and critical thinking across societies about the future of living, supports creating public spaces for exchange and debate on shared European values. Also, it wants to stimulate dialogue on issues such as the European Green Deal, sustainability and urbanism, through a curated programme of activities. The pavilion is a place to host such activities.

BK students are challenged to design and build a small ‘pavilion’ that will be a place for a as diverse group of citizens as possible to get to know the Europe Readr app, and for invited groups that will engage in small events that facilitates exchange, debate, and reflection on the future of living – in new and innovative ways.

Competition details

We’re inviting all interested BK-students to sign up for this summer’s competition. The competition will start late May and will run through end of July. In July, a jury will select a winning design that you will build. Even if your team doesn’t win, you can join in the production of the pavilion.

The first stop that will host the pavilion is OBA Amsterdam, the main public library in the Dutch capital. Next, we plan to go to Drenthe and end early winter we will be back at our own TU Delft Library. The overall project budget is 10.000,- euro. Most of this budget will be spent on production and design.
