TU Delft | Global Drinking Water announces:
The Best Paper Award 2020
Submissions welcome from 15 September until 15 October 2020
After last year’s success, where Dr. Mohammed Hossain from Bangladesh was awarded the BPA 2019 during IWA The Role of Technology conference in Delft, TU Delft | Global Drinking Water launches the 2nd edition of the Best Paper Award. It is an annual recognition to researchers who contribute to SDG6.1: achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all.
The TU Delft | Global Drinking Water Best Paper Award is a reward for the best paper published on innovative drinking water technologies which are directly linked to safe drinking water supply in the Global South. With the award, the Global Drinking Water programme aims to stimulate research on this topic. The first author of the winning publication will be granted 2,000 euro. Being granted this award is above all an opportunity to show the world the relevance of your work.
For the Best Paper Award 2020 we now request paper submissions that align with the below mentioned elegibility criteria. Submission deadline is 15 October 2020, 11:59 PM. Please send your submissions in PDF to globaldrinkingwater@tudelft.nl including contact details of the 1st author.
The first author of the winning paper is invited to present at the webinar Access to Drinking Water: co-creating in Africa #SDG6 on 26 November 2020, 14:00-17:00 (UTC+1), so please reserve this date.
The submitted papers will be evaluated by a review committee on the following criteria: novelty, scientific quality, applicability in Global South, quality of writing and visuals.

- Dr. Luis Guillermo Romero Esquivel, (Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC))
- Dr. Doris van Halem, chair (Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands)
Scientific publications will be accepted based on the following criteria:
- Publication should not be older than 5 years (pulication date September 2015 or later)
- Peer reviewed journal is a must, open access paper is a plus
- (Co-)authors from the Global South are a plus
- Studies should be based or applicable in the Global South
- The topic covered in the paper should be in-line with the core values of the TU Delft | Global Drinking Water programme and be specifically linked to one or more of the below:
- Novel technologies for safe drinking water (including treatment, supply and monitoring),
- New strategies for sustainable implementation of drinking water technologies,
- Contaminants of human health concern: arsenic, fluoride, heavy metals, pesticides & other micro-pollutants, pathogens (viruses, bacteria, protozoa), antibiotic resistant bacteria, etc.
