Laura Rossi works at the interface of chemistry, physics and engineering to design complex colloidal particles for self-assembly of novel functional materials. In specific, she focuses on the development of novel techniques for the preparation of colloids with unusual functionalities with an emphasis on magnetic colloids. The goal is to gain fundamental understanding of in- and out-of-equilibrium assembly of colloidal particles and use this knowledge to prepare new materials with specific mechanical, optical and therapeutic properties

Academic background

Laura Rossi obtained her Bachelor in chemistry from the University of Pavia (Italy) in 2005. After that she moved to Utrecht University where she obtained a Master in Chemistry and Physics and later in 2012 a PhD in Physical Chemistry. In 2013, she joined the department of Chemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles as postdoc. In 2015, she moved back to the Netherlands at the University of Amsterdam with a Veni grant. Since 2018 she is assistant professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at TU Delft where she leads the group on Colloidal Engineering and Materials Design.
