Aleksandar Staničić
I think that at A+BE we do a good job at teaching our students how to grow into responsible architects. With IDEE, I want to learn more about the theory that supports what we already practice here.
Background
Aleksandar Staničić is an architect and assistant professor at the faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment. At the Chair of Methods of Analysis and Imagination, Aleksandar teaches design studios and seminars on the history and theory of architecture. What Aleksandar finds most important in his own teaching, is that he enables his students to discover and pursue their own path as architects. This is why Aleksandar takes the time to talk openly to his students and help them discover their own identity as an architect.
Towards IDEE
When Aleksandar heard about the IDEE theme ‘Students taking responsibility for their learning process’, he immediately knew this was a project that he wanted to work on. The way Aleksandar sees it, at the faculty of A+BE there is already a lot of tacit knowledge on how to enable students to take responsibility for their own learning. ‘Both the research and design require students to take a lot of decisions on a daily basis. This is something that they need to learn how to do confidently. I think that at A+BE we do a good job at teaching our students how to grow into responsible architects. With IDEE, I want to learn more about the theory that supports what we already practice here.’
As part of IDEE
At the Chair of Methods of Analysis and Imagination, Aleksandar teaches students to think about what we need to do now so that the imagined future will become a reality. ‘With IDEE we are actually doing something similar. In our team, for example, we look at what we can do as educators to help our students take more responsibility for their own learning paths. First we will establish a common ground between TU Delf faculties, and then we will test our innovations, so that in a few years, more teachers and students can benefit from this. I am excited about what I will learn from working on IDEE, and look forward to sharing these insights with my colleagues at the Department of Architecture.’
Did you know that ...?
- Aleksandar and his colleagues participate in the “Explore Lab” graduation studio at A+BE. The idea is that highly motivated students are offered the chance to pursue their own unique path to graduation by designing their own curriculum, including mentoring team, overall topic, function, and location of the project. This is a wonderful example of students, quite literally, creating their own learning trajectory! Want to hear more about Aleksandar’s experiences with the Explore Lab?
