Travel Safety Training Sessions Dates
Students considering travelling abroad for any of the purposes mentioned above should check the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (in Dutch) for travel advice. When you are planning to travel, you are required to participate in one of these sessions, it will focus on the countries to be visited by the participants. If you have recently followed the Travel Safety Training (within the last 2 years), you do not have to follow the training again.
Register by clicking on an available session below before you go (more sessions will be added in peak periods).
You are also required to follow the guidelines of the Checklist Student Safety Abroad. This checklist provides important information regarding the colour coding system related to foreign travel advice.
We are currently working on a new video, some aspects to the video need to be updated.
Be aware:
- It is mandatory that students attend a safety training session.
- Students cannot travel to ‘Orange’ colour coded countries.
Check the current travel advice, travel insurance and don’t forget to register your trip in the MyTuDelft App before your departure.
Please contact TU-IV@tudelft.nl should you have any further questions.

The TU Delft travel insurance is not a comprehensive health insurance and only covers the necessary medical costs directly related to an accident or sickness during the stay abroad. Treatments that can be postponed until return to The Netherlands will not be covered. Students always have to arrange a main or primary health insurance by themselves. This insurance provides secondary coverage. This means it will pay after the primary health insurance has paid their part of the coverage. When making a travel medical claim, the primary health insurance has to be approached first. After this you can settle the remaining medical claim with the travel insurance.
The maximum period of stay abroad for trainees and students is set at 365 days. All stays with a longer duration than 365 days are not covered by the insurance. Students have to take out a travel insurance policy for the additional days by themselves.
-
When travelling, students should behave in a way that minimizes risk for themselves. TU Delft will do all it can to exercise its duty of care, but travellers have a responsibility to use common sense both during the planning of a journey, and while travelling to international locations. Travellers should have emergency contact numbers, their policy number with them, including those needed to cancel credit cards (in the event of loss).
Should a student need to sign a statement from the host institution or the internship provider relating to their stay abroad project and/or traineeship, such a statement must always be agreed upon with the faculty internship coordinator/faculty exchange coordinator before signing.
The TU liability and travel insurance does not cover unlimited financial consequential loss in the event of a stay abroad for study and internship. If a student (unintentionally) makes a mistake that, for example, causes a company to come to a standstill, it could result in huge financial consequences that the TU travel insurance cannot provide. If TU travel insurance pays out, this is done in accordance with Dutch law.
Every traveller is expected to have a primary health insurance in place whether that be in the Netherlands or their home country.
Should a student wish to rent a vehicle, the student must take a comprehensive insurance policy with the rental, this is not covered by the TU Delft travel insurance policy.
-
To manage travel related risk, TU Delft safety and Security Department proactively monitors, conducts analysis for, anticipates, and provides assistance for global situations that may cause risk to TU travellers.
-

A student's primary health insurance provider is the first point of contact.
If a statement is required, then it should be requested here first. Nevertheless, the TU Delft travel insurance meets the conditions that are made.
If a certificate needs to be issued by the travel insurer (AIG), including the mention of these specific coverages, please contact AIG directly via cast.issuing@aig.com.
If these coverages to be included are reported directly, AIG will include them. TU Delft will verify in the certificate that AIG meets the appropriate ratings.
Medical Examination
For some countries, a medical examination prior to your visit is mandatory. The SGZ provides a free basic examination.
This basic examination does not include the following examinations.
- Chest x-ray
- Mantoux test for TBC
- Laboratory or blood testing
The costs of these examinations vary so check with the health care provider.
Vaccinations
TU Delft provides a reimbursement of €50 (only at the SGZ) for vaccinations during an internship or study trip if this is required or advised in the country of destination.
The SGZ deducts this reimbursement from the bill. To take advantage of this discount, you must bring a completed vaccination form with you.
If you have supplementary insurance, the vaccination costs may be (partly) charged to the health insurer.
