M. Pimlott

Mark Pimlott is assistant professor of architectural design and lectures in Interiors Buildings Cities, having joined the department of architecture as visiting professor of practice in 2002. In parallel with his teaching, he writes and conducts research, largely on the public interior, and is a member of the Situated Architecture research group. He is the author of Without and within: essays on territory and the interior (Rotterdam: episode publishers, 2007); In passing (Heijningen: Jap Sam Books, 2010), and The Public Interior as Idea and Project (Heijningen: Jap Sam Books, 2016). A Walk from here to an other will be published in 2023 (Naples: Thymos Books). He is currently writing a dissertation, Means to a beginning (2024), on attitudes brought to the practice of architecture through reconciling readings and approaches pertinent to phenomenology, material culture and representation.

Academische achtergrond

Mark Pimlott studied architecture at McGill University (BSc(Arch)), Montréal and the Architectural Association, London (AADipl (Hons)); and visual arts at Goldsmiths' College, University of London (MA). Among academic positions, he taught at the Architectural Association as unit master in the intermediate and diploma schools, and has been guest lecturer and critic at many institutions. He was appointed visiting professor in relation to practice at TU Delft (2002-2006), Politecnico di Milano school of design (2014), and Politecnico di Milano school of architecture (2016). He has been assistant professor of architectural design at TU Delft since 2009.
