Biografie
Current position: José Luis Rueda Torres is currently an Associate Professor leading the research team on Dynamic Stability of Sustainable Electrical Power Systems, within the Intelligent Electrical Power Grids Section, Electrical Sustainable Energy Department, Delft University of Technology, Delft, the Netherlands..
Previous positions: From September 2003 till February 2005, he worked in Ecuador, in the fields of industrial control systems and electrical distribution networks operation and planning. In March 2014, he became Assistant Professor for Intelligent Electrical Power Grids at the Department of Electrical Sustainable Energy, Technical University Delft, Netherlands. He got tenured in June 2017. In April 2018, he was promoted to Associate Professor.
Degrees: He received the Electrical Engineer Diploma from Escuela Politécnica Nacional, Ecuador, with cum laude honors in August 2004. In November 2009, he received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Universidad Nacional de San Juan, Argentina, obtaining the highest mark ‘Sobresaliente’ (Outstanding). Between August 2010 and February 2014 he worked as a postdoctoral research associate at Institute of Electrical Power Systems, University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany.
International roles: Since July 2017, he is the chairperson of the Working Group on Modern Heuristic Optimization (WGMHO) under the IEEE PES Analytic Methods in Power Systems (AMPS) Committee. He was vice-chair of the WGMHO between July 2014 and July 2017. Since August 2017, Dr. Rueda is an associate editor of the Swarm and Evolutionary Computation Journal (Elsevier) - JCR Impact Factor: 3.893. Since October 2017, he is member of the Technical Committee on Power and Energy Systems of IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control)https://sites.google.com/. Since November 2020, he is Vice-Chair of the IFAC Technical Committee TC 6.3 Power and Energy Systems on Social Media. Since September 2019, he is Secretary of CIGRE JWG C4/C2.58/IEEE “Evaluation of Voltage Stability Assessment Methodologies in Transmission Systems”. Since September 2020, he is Secretary of the IEEE PES Intelligent Systems Subcommittee.

Research focus:
- Physics-driven analysis of stability phenomena of HVDC-HVAC systems.
- Large-scale modelling and dynamic equivalencing of HVDC-HVAC systems.
- Probabilistic assessment and management of multi-systemic reliability and stability.
- Adaptive, optimal, and resilient design of primary and secondary control systems.
Memberships: Dr. Rueda is member of Colegio de IngenierosEléctricos y Electrónicos de Pichincha (CIEEPI), member of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE), and senior member of the Institute of Electrical and ElectronicEngineers (IEEE).
