F. (Filippo) Grillo MSc MTD
Profiel
Filippo Grillo is a Ph.D. candidate in the section of Economics of Technology and Innovation at TU Delft’s Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, on the topics of standardization and multi-sided platforms. He works with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on the topic of technical standards for climate adaptation, for which he was awarded the ISO Research Grant 2022. He serves as Assistant Editor at the Journal of Standardisation and has given lectures for the courses of Strategic Management (bachelor level) and Technology Battles (master level). He also guest lectured for the course on Standardization and Innovation Management at the Rotterdam School of Management.
Onderzoeksinteresses
Filippo’s research explores the role of network effects in technical standards and multi-sided platforms. He investigates how the size and the structure of networks of organizations and individuals affect their value creation and appropriation. He focuses on networks of firms during the development of standards, and firms and consumers during the adoption of both standards and platforms. He also studies the social relevance of standards in two parallel projects, one being an interdisciplinary network analysis of the standardization literature, and the other on the role of standards for adaptation to rising sea levels (as part of the ISO Research Grant).
Academische achtergrond
For his Ph.D. trajectory, Filippo is a visiting scholar at the Erasmus University Rotterdam School of Management and TU Eindhoven’s Faculty of Innovation Sciences in the Netherlands, and at the University of Bordeaux’s School of Economics in France. He holds one M.Sc. degree in Innovation and Industrial Management from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, and one cum laude M.Sc. degree in Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship from the University of Rome LUISS Guido Carli in Italy. He was awarded a merit scholarship from the LUISS Alumni Association for the double degree program with the University of Gothenburg. Prior to the Ph.D., he conducted his master's thesis research at Ericsson AB in Gothenburg, Sweden, and he worked for two years in Milan, Italy, managing projects in the industries of telecommunication and hospitality.
